Later this Summer, construction will begin on a new Monsters Inc.-themed area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new land will replace the Muppets Courtyard area on the southeastern side of the theme park. Originally, Walt Disney World had announced that the first construction walls would arrive in the area “before the end of March”. Now, in early April, there are no signs of construction walls yet.
Construction Delay for Monsters Inc. Land
While visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we noticed that there were no construction progress walls installed in the Muppets Courtyard area, indicating a delay in the start of the project. Now, before anyone gets excited that this could mean a change in the project, that’s not what I’m suggesting at all. In fact, I fully expect that the Monsters Inc.-themed land will not only move forward, but that it will move relatively quickly once the area closes this Summer.
In fact, while there has been a delay in the arrival of initial construction walls, we fully expect that Walt Disney World will stick with the previously announced closing dates for Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, PizzeRizzo, MuppetVision 3D, and more.
As a reminder, here are the previously announced closing dates for those dining locations and experiences:
- Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano | Final Day May 10th
- MuppetVision 3D | Final Day June 7th
- PizzeRizzo | Final Day June 7th
When Walt Disney World announced that construction walls would be installed by the end of March, my thought was that there would be walls connecting the shuttered Stage 1 Company Store to a nearby backstage gate (pictured below). The thought was that Disney would get a head start on gutting Stage 1 to allow for a quick demolition in June. As it turns out, those construction walls have not arrived yet, indicating a possible delay in the initial work.
Walt Disney World has not returned a request for comment about the delay.
