Cinderella Castle Moat Draining Begins at Magic Kingdom

|

Days after we spotted early preparation work, Walt Disney World has begun the process of draining the moat around Cinderella Castle. This will allow high-reach cranes to sit in the moat and give painters access to the entirety of the iconic structure. Over the next few months, crews will be repainting Cinderella Castle back to a more classic-looking grey color scheme. Here’s the latest.

Late last month, we spotted the first signs that the moat draining was imminent with the arrival of the Portadam temporary cofferdams. From there, the pumps were installed just a couple of days ago. Now, the water level is dipping as the moat-draining process is underway. Here’s a look around!

All of this work is to support the repainting of Cinderella Castle. The repainting project was first announced at the Destination D23 event at Walt Disney World last August. Here’s a look at concept art for the project, returning Cinderella Castle to the classic grey and blue look that fans have been clamoring for.
