Vacation Fun Theater Set to Close
Disney has confirmed that Vacation Fun will be temporarily unavailable starting August 9th at the Mickey Shorts Theater. Disney has not shared a specific reopening date, but the theater is planned to reopen later this year. Guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios after August 9th will not be able to catch the show. The post-show Potatoland photo ops will also likely be unavailable until the theater reopens.
Disney has not detailed the reason for the closure in the official notice. The timing lines up closely with a separate announcement, though. That announcement confirms the theater will host a new Passholder exclusive starting August 11th, just two days after the closure begins. Walt Disney World confirmed a full lineup of Muppets-themed Annual Passholder exclusives this week. The offerings run August 11th through September 24th at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Beginning August 11th, Passholders can pick up a Kermit the Frog magnet at the Mickey Shorts Theater.
The magnet builds on a tease Disney shared in July through the Passholder Buzz section of the My Disney Experience app, as we previously reported. A swampy pond graphic and a caption referencing “Rainbow Connection” pointed toward Kermit the Frog. The magnet giveaway is one of three new Muppets-themed Passholder offerings coming to Hollywood Studios. Guests can also find a PhotoPass Magic Shot near Hollywood Boulevard and a Key Lime Kermit Milk Shake at Dockside Diner, both detailed in our coverage of the full Passholder lineup.
There is a two-day gap between the theater’s closure and the start of magnet distribution. The timing suggests the closure window could be used to prepare the post-show room to serve as the pickup location.
A Theater With a History of Short Closures
This is not the first time the Mickey Shorts Theater has temporarily closed. The theater underwent a roughly one-month refurbishment in 2024. That closure ran from April 29th through May 24th, reopening May 25th. It turned out to be for repairs to the theater doors rather than the seats or carpet, despite expectations of a broader refresh at the time.
Most recently, the theater closed briefly in May 2026, when it was the venue for Star Wars Day merchandise shopping at Hollywood Studios.
Vacation Fun debuted at the Mickey Shorts Theater in March 2020. The show is exclusive to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It blends new animation with clips from classic Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts, including Panda-monium, Potatoland, and Yodelburg.
