Cast Members posed for a farewell photo at Port Discovery today, holding signs referencing Aquatopia. Tokyo Disney Resort framed the milestone in a social media post. The post says that Aquatopia has been “producing many smiles for 25 years” in Port Discovery, a futuristic marina beyond time. The post notes that today marks the end of the attraction’s operating period. Port Discovery’s Cast Members are looking forward to spending the day with guests.
Aquatopia opened alongside Tokyo DisneySea on September 4th, 2001. The attraction sent guests spinning across a shallow pool of water in hydro-glider vehicles, weaving through fountains, rock formations, and whirlpools. Its final months ran a “Get Soaked” farewell experience, which began July 2nd and ran through today.

Tokyo Disney Resort has not detailed what will replace Aquatopia in Port Discovery beyond the concept art shown as part of OLC’s broader 2035 plans. In the concept art below, we can see a redesign of the Port Discovery area that includes the removal of the Aquatopia attraction. Beyond that, the Cape Cod area from the nearby American Waterfront land is completely removed and redesigned in the concept art as part of a wide-scale reimagining of this corner of the popular theme park.
OLC says that the theme parks are a growth business, and as part of that, its long-term strategy for the parks will include dynamic restructuring, including possible large-scale development such as an area-wide redesign. Additionally, OLC also showed a reimagined version of Adventureland at Tokyo Disneyland. Meanwhile, we’ll continue following the Port Discovery redevelopment as more details are confirmed.
