Tokyo Disney Resort has announced that the Aquatopia attraction in Tokyo DisneySea will be closing permanently later this year. The closure announcement comes as the Oriental Land Company (OLC) reportedly looks to reimagine the Port Discovery section of Tokyo DisneySea. Here’s the latest.

Aquatopia Closing Permanently at Tokyo DisneySea

According to Tokyo Disney Resort, the Aquatopia attraction, located in Port Discovery, will close permanently this September. The attraction, which takes guests on a trackless outdoor ride through water, will permanently close on September 14th.

Tokyo Disney Resort says that guests can enjoy one final summer of memories with the “Get Soaked” experience, starting July 2nd and running through September 14th.

The news comes after OLC outlined its 2035 long-term plans, which included concept art showing the removal of the Aquatopia attraction. In the concept art below, we can see a redesign of the Port Discovery area that includes the removal of the Aquatopia attraction. Beyond that, the Cape Cod area from the nearby American Waterfront land is completely removed and redesigned in the concept art as part of a wide-scale reimagining of this corner of the popular theme park.

OLC says that the theme parks are a growth business, and its long-term strategy for the theme parks will include dynamic restructuring of the parks, including possible large-scale development such as an area-wide redesign. OLC also showed a reimagined version of Adventureland at Tokyo Disneyland.

Currently, Port Discovery is described as a futuristic marina that is located across the horizons of time. In Port Discovery, guests can experience a vision of a wonderful tomorrow – a time where nature and science are in balance.

Aquatopia is an opening day attraction for Tokyo DisneySea, which opened on September 4, 2001. Guests have a wild ride across the waters of Port Discovery on a hydro-glider water vehicle, which spins and twirls across a shallow pool through a maze of fountains, rock formations, and whirlpools.
