Universal has announced a reimagined Horror Make-Up Show at Universal Studios Florida, now titled Universal Horror Make-Up Show featuring Blumhouse. The live show explores how Hollywood’s special effects artists have terrified moviegoers for more than 100 years, from Universal’s classic monsters to Blumhouse’s modern horror. Universal says details are coming soon. Michael Aiello, who performed in the show for years, says the team reimagined the entire venue from floor to ceiling.

The Horror Make-Up Show has a new name and a new creative partner. As we reported when Universal confirmed the temporary closure, the original show closed beginning May 12th. Universal said then that the updated show would open later this year with a mix of classic and modern horror properties. Blumhouse is a big name for the modern side of that mix. Universal has not yet shared an opening date.
A Tribute to 100 Years of Universal Horror
Universal describes the show as a chance to “discover how Hollywoodโs top special effects artists have terrified moviegoers for over 100 years – from Universalโs classic monsters to the modern horrors of Blumhouse.” Michael Aiello, Senior Director – Entertainment Creative Development – Universal Destinations and Experiences, calls the show a tribute to 100 years of Universal Horror, presented alongside Blumhouse. The show has been part of Universal Studios Florida since the park opened in 1990.
A Floor-to-Ceiling Visual Reimagining
Aiello calls the update “more than a fresh coat of paint, an entire visual reimagining from floor to ceiling.” He says it was a long-held dream to convince leadership to update the entire venue. “Well, they said yes!” he says.
Longtime fans will still recognize the show. Aiello says much of what fans have always loved about it has remained, and that new surprises await. That echoes the “shockingly fun surprises” Universal teased in May.
Aiello credits the full project team for giving the attraction “the very best treatment.” He closes with a tribute of his own: “Horror, humor and respect to Universal, the studio that created the horror movie genre!”
