According to permits filed with the state, Disney will be moving full steam ahead with the planned resort refurbishment at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. As we previously discussed, there are two aspects to this project – an arrival experience overhaul and Moana-inspired room reservations.

First, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will remain closed to guests through Summer 2021. That isn’t to say that some of the amenities, dining, and more won’t be open though, just that rooms are not bookable outside of the Disney Vacation Club allotment. As a matter of fact, The Great Ceremonial House remains open to guests through the early stages of the refurbishment and the closure of the monorail station has been pushed back to early November.

Now, back to the permits. All of the permits list the work as “General construction”, but we can gather some amount of information based on the addresses listed and contractor hired to do the work.

The Friedrich Watkins Company (FWC) has been hired to do the work, and according to their website, they specialize in “hotel and resort renovation” among other specialties. FWC construction vehicles are common on Disney World construction sites too, having done work at Disney resorts before (including Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort), work at Disney Springs, and work in the Disney World theme parks.

The work listed on the permits targets seven different buildings at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and the permits range in end dates from February 2021 all the way until August 2021. Here are the buildings listed on the permits:

• Hawaii
• Rarotonga
• Fiji
• Tuvalu
• Niue
• Aetearoa
