Grand Floridian Walkway Update: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Good morming from Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort! Today, we wanted to take a look at the latest construction progress on a walkway that will connect Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort (and, by extension the Polynesian Village Resort and Transportation and Ticket Center) to the main entrance of Magic Kingdom.

The walkway, which has been a resort guest dream for sometime appears to be in the closing weeks of construction, but as you’ll see, it’s actually waiting on the completion of another project before it can open.

We’ll start with the good news – the lampposts have finally been installed along the Grand Floridian side of the swing bridge.

Now for the “two steps back” portion of the progress. Back in July, Disney installed a temporary walkway that bypassed some of the construction taking place at the new western Magic Kingdom boat launch (which will eventually be the connection point for the walkway). This temporary walkway was connected to the monorail station.

Just a few weeks ago a bag check was set up at the temporary walkway, signaling what many thought at the time would be an imminent opening of the walkway.

Getting back to today, we can see that this temporary walkway has been completely removed. This means that guests will need to wait until the western Magic Kingdom boat launch construction is done. We’ll take a look at that project a little later.
