Today is the debut of the Disney Genie+ skip-the-line service at Disneyland, and it couldn’t have gone worse for Disney. The Genie service has been broken since before the park opened, and the guests who were able to purchase the service have been faced with a broken Disneyland app that won’t let them select Genie+ Lightning Lane return times.
After hours of frustration and an attempt at on-the-ground troubleshooting, Disney has finally acknowledged the issues via an in-app message as seen below.

In an attempt to save the day for guests who were able to purchase Disney Genie+, Cast Members in the parks have been allowing guests with a purchase confirmation to simply walk onto rides – no need to make a return time because the app is not working.
Disney issued the following statement about the rollout of Genie+ (via Scott Gustin):
We are working hard to resolve some technology challenges that have impacted some of our guests today and are providing recovery options to those guests. We have paused sales for Lightning Lane options (Disney Genie+/a la carte) for the remainder of the day.

Happy to hear it. Adding more Pay to Play to Disney parks is not what Walt would have wanted. Hope they continue to have nothing but problems with this system until they are forced to just scrap it all together.
The whole thing is a giant cluster and needs to be scrapped. Just bring back FP+ and make people pay for it. It’s all about the money anyway; at least give us back the functionality of the prior system.
