How Much Does Disney Genie+ Cost at Walt Disney World? (2024)

    Published:

For guests looking to skip the standby line at many Walt Disney World attractions, Disney offers a service called Disney Genie+. This skip-the-line service allows guests to book a return time, based on availability, where they can skip the standby line and use something called a Lightning Lane to enjoy a shorter wait to ride. In this article, we’re going to take a look at how much the Disney Genie+ service costs to purchase at Walt Disney World. The answer is a little bit more complicated than a simple number, so let’s dive in. (Updated April 28, 2024)

    Disney Genie+ Variable Pricing

When it first debuted in October 2021, Disney Genie+ was a flat $15 and could be used at all eligible attractions at any of the four Walt Disney World theme parks on the day it was purchased.

Then, in October 2022, Disney World introduced variable pricing for the Disney Genie+ service. Instead of a flat $15 rate, the cost of the Genie+ service would end up ranging from $15 to $35 based on the anticipated demand for the day.

In theory, variable pricing attempts to accomplish two things. First, if there are more people in the theme parks, the service becomes more valuable. Skipping a 75-minute wait at Peter Pan’s Flight is more valuable than skipping a 45-minute wait. Therefore, on busy days at Walt Disney World, Disney would increase the price of the service. The second thing a variable price attempts to accomplish is to entice guests with a lower price on slower days when a skip-the-line service may not be necessary or to discourage too many guests from purchasing it on a busier day when the lines become unbearable.

So, now Disney was able to carefully control pricing based on anticipated demand at the theme parks on any given day to try and achieve peak utilization without diminishing returns from a guest experience perspective. During this variable pricing Genie+ period, the average price of the service was $21.75 across 259 days, according to tracked pricing data from thrill-data.

At nearly $7 more, on average, the move to variable pricing seemed to be a smart one for Disney’s accountants, but guests started to grumble a bit given the fact that not only are all days not created equal at Disney World, but all parks are not created equally when it comes to value from the Genie+ service. Now, this wasn’t a unique issue to variable daily pricing, but it was exacerbated by it and guests started to wonder why they were paying $35 for Magic Kingdom on a peak day and also being asked to pay $35 for Disney’s Animal Kingdom, often acknowledged as the park where you need the service the least.

    Enter per-park variable daily pricing.

    Disney Genie+ Per-Park Pricing

Announced on June 23rd, the per-park pricing of the Disney Genie+ service started on June 27th. In the announcement, Disney said that the change to park-specific pricing was a result of “working on ways to simplify the Disney Genie+ service”. At the time, Disney also teased that it would “[offer] the ability to plan before the day of your visit”, but that has yet to materialize as of publish time.

Anyway, the Genie+ per-park pricing would acknowledge what many guests knew: not all Disney World theme parks are created equally. As a result, Animal Kingdom would cost a little bit less per day, and Magic Kingdom would take the top spot. While the answer to our article’s title question may have been simple back when the service launched, it has increasingly become a bit more complicated. With the groundwork of the service now laid out, we can take a look at historical averages and price ranges to answer the question posed 600 words ago.

How Much Does Disney Genie+ Cost at Walt Disney World?

The price of the Disney Genie+ service varies by date and theme park. We’ll utilize tracked prices to come up with an average cost for the Disney Genie+ service at each of the four Walt Disney World theme parks, as well as a price range from the busiest times of year to the slowest.

    Magic Kingdom Genie+ Pricing
At Magic Kingdom, the price of the Disney Genie+ service ranges from $20 during the slowest times of the year up to $39 during the busy holiday season. On average, the price of Disney Genie+ for Magic Kingdom is just under $27.

    EPCOT Genie+ Pricing
At EPCOT, the price of the Disney Genie+ service ranges from $15 during the slowest times of the year up to $32 during the busy holiday season. On average, the price of Disney Genie+ for EPCOT is just under $20.

    Hollywood Studios Genie+ Pricing
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the price of the Disney Genie+ service ranges from $20 during the slowest times of the year up to $35 during the busy holiday season. On average, the price of Disney Genie+ for Hollywood Studios is just over $24.

    Animal Kingdom Genie+ Pricing
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the price of the Disney Genie+ service ranges from $15 during the slowest times of the year up to $29 during the busy holiday season. On average, the price of Disney Genie+ for Animal Kingdom is just under $18.

Interestingly, the four-park average pricing of the Disney Genie+ service has gone down since per-park pricing was introduced. When the four-park daily variable pricing was in use from October 2022 through late June 2023, the average price was $21.75. Since the per-park pricing was introduced in June 2023 through April 2024, the average price is $22.12. That said, we go back to the concept that all parks are not created equally.

We see the highest utilization (based on posted sellouts) at Magic Kingdom, which has an average daily price of nearly $27. We’d bet that Disney World has crunched the numbers and found out that per-park pricing creates more raw dollars at Disney’s Animal Kingdom than a four-park variable price did, otherwise, they wouldn’t have embarked on per-park pricing. At an average price of under $18, Disney is “foregoing” more than $4 per transaction, but if there are enough transactions at the lower price, the raw dollar amount could very well be higher than before per-park pricing.

Similarly, being able to add $5 to every Magic Kingdom transaction, on average, will see the raw dollar amount there increase in a park that nearly demands Genie+ for guests looking to do it all and not be in the park from rope drop to park close.

As we look toward 2024, we’d imagine that even more price increases are in the works, but without a full year of per-park pricing, the “lapped” data isn’t painting the full picture. In addition to anticipated price increases this year, we are keeping an eye out for more changes to the service such as the aforementioned per-arrival planning/booking of Genie+ selections.
