Before Disney World drained the Cinderella Castle moat to remove the 50th Anniversary decorations earlier this year, we noticed that some rockwork was damaged along the banks of the moat. This rockwork hid some lighting for Cinderella Castle and we assumed that once the moat was drained, crews would take advantage of the easier access to repair the rockwork. Indeed, Disney World has taken advantage of the dry moat to fix the rockwork. Here’s a timeline of our photos tracking the project.

April 6, 2023

This was before the moat was drained. The rockwork in question is on the south (opposite) bank on the west side of Cinderella Castle.

Disney had placed a green tarp over it for some time to hide most of the damage, but it would turn out that the worst damage was under the water.

April 15, 2023

With the water drained from the moat, we could see more of the damaged faux rockwork as it crumbled away.

June 14, 2023

It took a while for the rockwork to become a priority, but earlier this month the faux rocks were completley removed, leaving just the electrical components.

June 24, 2023

While visiting earlier today, we noticed that Disney rebuilt the rockwork, but it looks like there might not currently be support for lighting. It’s possible that the project isn’t completed yet, or that Disney doesn’t need the semi-hidden lighting components anymore with an entire set of lights in plain view along the shore.
