Extensive Planetary Plaza Refurbishment Project Continues at Mission: SPACE in EPCOT

While visiting EPCOT today, we decided to check in on the courtyard refurbishment project at Mission: SPACE. The work, which extends beyond just the sun-damaged planets, will see a full refresh of the courtyard space in front of the thrilling attraction. Mission: SPACE remains open to guests during the work.

In our last update, we saw that crews had cut lines in the concrete to make for easier removal of the pavement. If you look closely at the photos we posted, it looks like crews cut around some of the in-pavement theming such as the Mars rover tracks. Now, crews have completely removed all existing pavement and they’re starting to pour new concrete for the next phase of the project. It doesn’t look like they have begun work on the facade proper yet.

Mission: SPACE is a middle-of-the-road attraction in terms of average wait times. It is basically at the top of the lower tier of attractions and noticeably behind attractions like Test Track, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and Frozen Ever After. While it’s nice to see Disney refresh the courtyard and facade, we have to wonder what the long-term plans for the attraction are. Can Mission: SPACE really last to infinity and beyond, or will it require an IP injection at some point?

Here’s a look around at the courtyard work!
