According to local meteorologist Brian Shields, Florida will be facing the hottest week of the year, with a heat index climbing as high as 115°. The Disney World Firefighter Union posted on social media, advising guests to drink plenty of water and to stay cool. While that advice is good throughout the summer, it will be especially important this week.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Disney World area, saying that a heat index of 112° is expected today. Advice from the National Weather Service includes:
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Stay in an air-conditioned room
- Stay out of the sun
- When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening
- Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
- Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible
- Schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments
- Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location
- Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9-1-1
High temperatures are expected to stay above 95° for the next week, with heat indexes well above 100°.
Keep in mind that Disney World offers complimentary ice water at quick service locations. When visiting the parks, we make sure to stop at least once per hour to hydrate and cool down with some air conditioning. Even when this extended period of extreme heat passes, it will be imperative to stay hydrated and take breaks during a visit to Walt Disney World this summer.
