Following a D23 Expo keynote presentation where Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro was joined by Deadpool, yes, you read that right, Disney has provided an updated timeline on when work will begin to double the size of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.
According to reporter Scott Gustin, Disney has said that work will begin early next year to double the size of Avengers Campus. Previously, Disney only announced that construction would begin sometime next year. The Disneyland Resort has not said when the new experiences will actually open, but it will likely take a minimum of 2-3 years to build (and probably considerably longer).
To make room for the construction of two new attractions, the Red Car Trolley will close in early 2025. It’s unclear if the trolley will return with a modified route at a later time or not. There is a lot of prep work that needs to take place in a backstage area currently occupied by the Red Car Trolley barn and a backstage parking area to bring the Avengers Campus expansion to life.
The report that construction is starting early next year followed our reporting that the Disneyland Resort has filed early paperwork to get the ball moving.
