While visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom this morning, we noticed that work is underway to refresh the glowing pavement in Pandora – The World of Avatar. Walt Disney World has to somewhat regularly maintain the pavement that is designed to glow after the sun sets. Small glow-in-the-dark pebbles wear over time, losing their ability to glow during the few weeks per year that Animal Kingdom is open late enough for guests to enjoy the pavement. Here’s a look at the work underway!
Glowing Pavement Refresh in Pandora – The World of Avatar
The last time we noticed Disney refresh the pavement was back in February 2024 over near the restrooms and outdoor merchandise kiosks near the entrance to the Na’vi River Journey attraction. Here’s a look back at the work that took place around this time last year.

Back to our visit to Animal Kingdom this morning, we can see that the area of pavement of interest to crews this time around is near the scenic photo spot right in front of the floating mountains. We can see the contrast of the refreshed pavement next to the pavement that has almost no glowing material left in it after tons of foot traffic and even some washout from the nearby waterfall.

Here are a few comparison shots of similar patterns that were recently refreshed compared to nearby pavement that awaits a refresh.

Finally, here’s a look at the area in front of the Flight of Passage attraction, which could be next for crews to address.
