Refreshed Haunted Mansion Facade Fully Revealed at Magic Kingdom

The scrims are down at Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion. Its refreshed facade is visible again after months of scaffolding, and scrim hid the mansion’s iconic silhouette. We stopped by Liberty Square this morning for a look at the finished exterior work. The refresh appears complete from the front, though construction fencing remains at ground level as work continues nearby. Here’s a detailed look!

Refreshed Haunted Mansion Facade Revealed

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • The scrims covering Haunted Mansion’s facade have come down, revealing the finished exterior refresh
  • The dome finial above the entrance tower now shows a green patina, a change from its gold appearance earlier this year
  • Other changes make the Haunted Mansion look more like the original color design

The Facade Refresh Is Complete

Months after work began, the scrims have come down, and the Haunted Mansion facade is visible again. Comparing our photos from January to this week, the most noticeable change is the dome finial above the entrance tower. It appeared gold or bronze back in January, and now shows a green, weathered patina. The wrought iron roof cresting and the bat weathervane on top of the dome remain in place. Both appear freshly cleaned.

While lighting differs greatly in these before/current photos, we can see that the cornerstone bricks have a much lighter finish. The bricks themselves are darker, creating a much richer look. The contrast between the light cornerstone bricks and the darker body bricks creates a nice pop in person.

Other details include a new roof, a sort of burnt/smokey finish near the top of the chiming stacks, and a general refresh of all paint. Here are some detailed photos of the new look for the Haunted Mansion facade during the morning hours at Magic Kingdom.

What’s Still Ahead for the Area

The Haunted Mansion sits close to the ongoing Piston Peak National Park expansion. Work in the surrounding area remains very active. We recently found new construction on a queue building near the mansion, built against the back of an existing facade that once served as an extended queue. That structure’s footprint is expanding as part of the broader construction happening behind the walls in Liberty Square.

Inside the attraction itself, we also recently looked into a tip about the hanging corpse in the stretching room. Guests had reported it disappeared. Our visit pointed to a lighting issue rather than removal, a finding that lines up with what Disney told us back in February. Disney had said the refresh was limited to the exterior, with no changes to the show scenes.

The hanging corpse lighting issue has since been fixed, and the stretching room pre-shows look better than they have in quite some time.

Story So Far

  • December 2025: Imagineering filed a permit listing “install set elements” as the scope of work at the Haunted Mansion, with no details yet on what the changes would be.
  • January 2026: Scrims and scaffolding began expanding across the front of the mansion, and we speculated a facade refresh was the likely cause.
  • February 2026: Disney confirmed the work was a standard facade refresh, with no changes to the show scenes or stretching room, and that the mansion would remain open throughout.
  • July 2026: New construction continued on a nearby queue building tied to the surrounding Piston Peak National Park expansion, and we checked into a tip about the hanging corpse in the stretching room, finding no evidence of removal.
