Is a Haunted Mansion Facade Refresh Coming Soon to Magic Kingdom?

|

While visiting Magic Kingdom today, we noticed that scrims and scaffolding have significantly expanded at the Haunted Mansion attraction. Earlier this week, we posted some photos showing that land clearing was getting closer to the Haunted Mansion, but a new development today makes me think that the classic attraction will soon be engulfed in scaffolding as Walt Disney World performs a facade refresh. Here’s the latest.

Scrims Expand to Front of Haunted Mansion

We’ll start this article with some empirical evidence – the arrival of scaffolding and a scrim at the front of the Haunted Mansion facade. Right now, this scrim is off to the side of the mansion, but I think it’s possible that the Mansion will soon be completely blocked from view. Before we get to that theory, here’s a look at the new scrim.

Haunted Mansion Facade Refresh?

Ok, now for some speculation. I think all the evidence we need is right in front of us – literally. Notice how all of the vegetation has been removed from in front of the Haunted Mansion? Disney is really, really good at changing out flowerbeds overnight. If this was a simple flowerbed change, it would’ve been done by now. Instead, I think the lack of foliage indicates that there will soon be work in the area. With the large scrim already off to the side of the Mansion, I think we see more scrim arrive in the coming days as Disney blocks the Haunted Mansion facade from view.

From there, my hope is that we see a simple refresh of the facade. That said, I don’t necessarily think that the facade is in bad shape, which gets me thinking. The area around Haunted Mansion needs a surprising amount of work before the Piston Peak National Park debuts in a couple of years. For starters, Disney needs to create more queue, and a lot of it. Right now, during a slower period of the year, the queue routinely extends well past the entrance to the attraction.

Instead of a facade refresh, is Disney in the early stages of a queue reconfiguration? Will there be some serious work at the Haunted Mansion that would require a giant facade to hide it from view? Only time will tell!
