New Details About Haunted Mansion Refurbishment in Magic Kingdom

|

While visiting Magic Kingdom this morning, we snapped some new photos of the ever-growing scrim situation in front of the classic Haunted Mansion attraction. We also have some new information about the work, and what it isn’t. Here’s the latest.

Haunted Mansion Exterior Refurbishment

Over the past two weeks, we’ve been watching scrims continue to expand in front of the Haunted Mansion. Actually, we’ve been tracking the fact that something was changing at the Haunted Mansion since Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for a “set installation” back in December.

Now, the scrims continue to grow and have nearly fully engulfed the spooky facade.

While there has been some speculation as to the scope of the work, we’re told that this is a rather standard facade refresh. There are no additions or changes being made to the Mansion. There have been some rumors circling that there were changes on the way to the stretching room, but that’s not the case.

The Haunted Mansion attraction will remain open during this exterior work.

While Disney doesn’t have an exact end date for the work, we expect that it will continue for at least a few months. It will be interesting to see if Disney ends up draping the scrims in a themed scrim like they did back in 2016 when the facade was refreshed.

Nearby, work is full steam ahead for the Piston Peak National Park Cars-themed expansion to Frontierland, and the upcoming Villains Land. Land clearing is encroaching on the Haunted Mansion, and newly filed permits show that a new building will be constructed near the Haunted Mansion interactive queue. No details yet on what that could be, but here’s a look at the permit that shows the layout of the attractions coming to Magic Kingdom over the next five years.
