Level99 Swaps “Hints” for “Instructions”, Offering Clearer Overview for Games

Level99 has replaced “Hints” with a new “Instructions” feature on every game Entry Screen. The new system gives players a clearer breakdown of what to expect before stepping into a challenge room. We noted in our first impression review of Level99 at Disney Springs that the old hints offered some guidance, but uncertainty remained once the clock started. Instructions lay out the goal, rules, and scoring for every room in one place. Here’s a look at the change, and why we think this is a change for the better…mostly.

Level99 Replaces Hints With Instructions

The goal explains what a room asks players to accomplish, stated plainly instead of left for players to work out. Rules cover how a game works, including how a team could lose or run out of chances mid-challenge. Stars explain how a room awards points, so players know the scoring target before they start rather than learning it through trial and error.

The old hints system offered players some information, but it functioned more like a clue than a full explanation. Our first impression review described tips on the entry screen that could set players on the right path. Uncertainty remained once inside, even with those tips available. Instructions are meant to close that gap for players who would rather walk in informed.

Level99 was careful to note that instructions remain optional context, not a requirement. In its announcement, the company said it still thinks “the most fun comes from figuring it out together,” but added that the instructions are there for players who get stuck. That framing matches what we saw during our preview, where difficulty and physicality varied enough that some rooms benefited from more upfront context than others.

The update applies to every Entry Screen at Level99. That means the lightbulb icon will be available across all of the venue’s more than 60 challenge rooms. Whether a group taps into instructions or heads straight for the play button remains entirely up to them.

In terms of our thoughts on the change, it’s a solid update. I think that Level99 could’ve offered both hints and instructions to allow for different levels of information going into the room, but perhaps that would’ve complicated things further. For now, this change remains a welcome one for the average guest, and it’ll allow you to make the most of your time when visiting Level99.
