According to a report by CNBC, the Biden administration is getting ready to relax federal guidance on wearing face coverings while outdoors. The guidance could come as early as this week, and will reportedly offer different guidelines for those who are fully vaccinated and those who are not.
Here is the current CDC guidance:
Masks may not be necessary when you are outside by yourself away from others, or with people who live in your household. However, some areas may have mask mandates while out in public, so please check the rules in your local area (such as in your city, county, or state). Additionally, check whether any federal mask mandates apply to where you will be going.
Regardless of what the CDC guidelines state, Disney has, and continues to, go above and beyond local, state, and federal guidance. That said, Disney has often looked towards the CDC as a baseline for their own safety policies, so a relaxation of masks in outdoor settings or even physical distancing requirements could very well trickle down as official Walt Disney World policy in the weeks to follow.
Also important to remember is that Orange County Florida still has a mask mandate that Disney would very likely comply with. This mask mandate does not differentiate between indoor and outdoor settings, and likely won’t be lifted until “later this summer”.
Disney World has started to relax a number of COVID-19 safety protocols around the theme parks and resorts. Here are a few of our stories on the recent changes:
