According to Disneyland President Ken Potrock, the Disneyland version of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will have “some enhancements” that the version at Disney’s Hollywood Studios doesn’t have.
Potrock didn’t expand on what those “enhancements” might be, but we have previously reported that additional show scenes were planned for the attraction. More specifically, three additional show scenes are planned for the attraction.
When blueprints leaked before the attraction opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney clearly defined 13 show scenes – including both pre-show theaters. A permit filed by Disney for the Disneyland version listed 16 show scenes.
While Walt Disney World was limited to the existing Chinese Theater show building from the former Great Movie Ride attraction, Disneyland is essentially creating a new build from scratch. This would, in theory, give them a bit more flexibility than the version at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
As seen in the concept art above, the attraction will take place in the El Capitoon Theater in the Toontown section of Disneyland. Just like the Chinese Theater, guests will likely “step into” a screen to experience Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland. As you can see in the concept art below, the queue will be different than the Chinese Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which retained a lot of the queue from the previous attraction that utilized the space – The Great Movie Ride.
It remains to be seen whether or not those show scenes will be on the ride or in the pre-show portion of the experience. Disney has not confirmed many details about the Disneyland version of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, but we do expect to hear more before its 2023 debut.
