While enjoying a lap on the monorail this morning, we noticed an uptick in activity in “The Pit” at EPCOT. While we’ve mostly been focused on the Journey of Water construction and, more recently, with CommuniCore Hall vertical construction, there is still plenty of work left to be done in World Celebration before Imagineers can hang their hardhat. In this update, we’ll turn our gaze to the Festival Gardens, which will be a hub of sorts for the old Future World section of EPCOT. This will roughly be located where the former Fountain of Nations once stood.

We’ll start with a look at concept art for the area.

Here’s a look at the latest construction, which appears to be focused on utility work and even the start of some concrete form installation.

Disney has not announced an opening date for all of this work, but it seems like a deadline has been targeted internally. Perhaps we’ll learn more at the D23 Expo in September.
