Crews Prepare to Drain Cinderella Castle Moat Soon for 50th Anniversary Decoration Removal at Magic Kingdom

While the 50th Anniversary medallion was removed days ago, no other 50th Anniversary decorations have been removed from Cinderella Castle. The medallion, which was on the front of Cinderella Castle, was easy to access, but other decorations will require the Cinderella Castle moat to be drained. Over the past couple of days, crews have installed dams on either side of Cinderella Castle and will soon drain the moat to get access to remove the decor and touch up the paint where necessary. Here’s a look at the moat from this afternoon. We didn’t notice any draining equipment in place yet, but proper draining should begin soon.

Before we get to the work to create dams, here’s a look at the decor pieces that will be removed.

We’ll start on the east (right) side of Cinderella Castle and the view from the Fantasyland bridge.

We can see that the water level has already dropped a bit, perhaps naturally.

On the west (left) side of Cinderella Castle, we can see that the moat will be drained all the way to and past the Liberty Square Bridge.

Hopefully crews will take some time to address some longtime refurbishment on these rocks.

The dam on the left side of Cinderella Castle is between the Adventureland walkway and the Liberty Square Bridge.
