Earlier this month the pavilion logo flags at EPCOT’s main entrance went missing, likely after sustaining damage from Hurricane Debby. While visiting EPCOT recently, we noticed that not only were the flags back, but so was the PLAY Pavilion flag – something that fans had assumed wouldn’t return.
As a refresher, the PLAY Pavilion is, for all intents and purposes, a dead concept for the former Wonders of Life pavilion in World Discovery. The pavilion would’ve been a place where guests of all ages could have “explored the power of play” in a sprawling indoor space. The venue would’ve provided a nice balance for World Discovery, which is entirely comprised of thrill rides with height restrictions.
The PLAY Pavilion hasn’t been mentioned by Disney in years, and the EPCOT Vice President has declared that the transformation of the park is complete, despite some high-profile projects such as the PLAY Pavilion never being completed. When Disney cancels projects, it typically does so quietly, and the removal of the flag would’ve been an easy way to signal that the project is not moving forward. That said, the flag is back and flying along with all of the other pavilion flags at EPCOT’s main entrance. Here’s a look around!
