Stormalong Bay Refurbishment Update: Water Returns, but Deadline Looms

While visiting the Crescent Lake area recently, we decided to drop in on Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club to check out the ongoing Stormalong Bay refurbishment. The project has made some wonderful progress since our last update, but a deadline to reopen this month is looming. Here’s a look at the current status of the project.

Stormalong Bay Refurbishment Update: The End is Near…?

Stormalong Bay closed back in January for a lengthy, but necessary refurbishment. While Walt Disney World does not release details related to the work, construction has been visible and the pool received a full refresh. New concrete and work on the pool pumps was visible over the past few months.

While visiting today, we noticed that the pool has been refilled, and work continues on pumps and getting the pool ready to reopen. Officially, Walt Disney World has said that the pool will reopen this month. If I was a betting man, I would say late this month (if not July).

In addition to the work taking place on Stormalong Bay, an exterior refurbishment of the hotel itself is ongoing. Disney says that they’ll be done with the exterior refurbishment in October. All of the work is a legacy project, with Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club set to celebrate its 35th Anniversary this November. Here’s a look around at the work taking place!

Hurricane Hanna’s remains closed and has been closed for the entire refurbishment. Crews are utilizing the space around the venue for staging and extra work space.

One of the busiest areas within the pool deck is the slide and pool pump.

That said, some walls are starting to come down as crews prepare for a reopening. I’m often surprised at how quickly refurbishment projects at the resorts wrap up. You can go from a construction site one day to open and ready to go the next. Still, we’d plan on not being able to use the pool for another week or so, at the minimum.

There is some ongoing work and scaffolding at the Shipwreck Slide.

As mentioned earlier, there is an exterior refurbishment going on at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort(s) as well. So we’ll cover a bit of that here as we walk along the interior hallways from the Beach Club over to the Yacht Club.

Back out to the pool area, there is still some equipment in place as crews continue working. It was a hive of activity when we visited this morning.

Pool deck chairs are staged and some cabanas are being rebuilt.

We also noticed that the rope along the walkway between the resort and beach area was also being refreshed. Disney has spent a considerable amount of money and time to get the resort ready for its 35th Anniversary later this year.
