Disney Says That Those Medically Unable to Wear Face Masks Will Not Be Admitted to Disney Springs During Phased Reopening

One of the unanswered questions that many of our readers had going into the phased reopening of Disney Springs today was about individuals who, for medical reasons, aren’t able to wear a mask.

We talked with a few of the Disney managers at the mandatory temperature check areas today and they were all very clear: masks are required. As stated on the Disney Springs website, all guests are required to wear masks when they visit Disney Springs at this time, and the managers were clear that guests who are not wearing masks, including medical reasons, will not be admitted. There is no wiggle room, the rules are cut and dry.

Of course, this is all subject to change as conditions surrounding COVID-19 change and as Disney continues the phased reopening of Disney Springs.

The topic of masks has been a hot button issue on social media, but Disney is being very clear with plenty of signage around Disney Springs and a few Cast Members who are able to answer any questions that guests might have. For more on the temperature screening and arrival process, check out our earlier post.

Although I am sure Disney has given this some great thought, this is a clear violation of the American Disabilities Act and should cease immediately. Disney should be the example of what is right to do and not what is wrong. Educating and protecting high risk people, all while reminding people of the risks we have today is all they should do. It is important to think of all people when we set rules in place. This is why the ADA exists. To ensure rules do not infringe on the rights of people who could be affected.
