In what has been a rather common sight at EPCOT, crews are working on one of the Harmonious barges again today. The efforts are not to add new effects to the 119-day-old show, but rather ongoing maintenance. Multiple times per week, crews have been spotted performing daytime maintenance on one or more of the barges in an effort to preserve show quality for Harmonious. The show is reportedly taxing on the equipment on board the five barges on World Showcase Lagoon, and because the barges are semi-permanently affixed to platforms in the lagoon, work has to take place in full guest view. Here’s a look at the work taking place this morning.
In an opinion piece a few weeks ago, we took a look at what we called the embarrassing state of World Showcase Lagoon. In the piece, we took a look at where we are when it comes to the previously announced “daytime fountain effects”. As it stands, the fountain effects can’t be turned on when there are maintenance crews on the barges. It’s possible that whatever problems are leading to the ongoing maintenance issues could also prevent the daytime fountain effects from running properly, or for an extended amount of time.
Right now, Disney remains quiet on the status of the daytime fountains, and they have long since removed concept art that was scattered around the lagoon to showcase the daytime fountain effect that Disney said would add an ambient energy to World Showcase Lagoon.

OMG! Just remove the entire tacky show.
Hopefully it burns down so we can get rid of this horrendous show.
Harmonious is FANTASTIC, but it’s also fantastically complicated. From an engineering perspective, it’s complication will make it a money-pit for Disney, as they will need continuous maintenance just to keep it running.
