Construction Underway at World Celebration Festival Center Site in EPCOT

Construction crews have started to excavate south of the Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana site at EPCOT. This plot of land is where the World Celebration Festival Center has been announced to reside, but recent reports is that the Festival Center concept has been scaled back. First, let’s take a look at the concept art previously released for the project.

This is the concept art for the World Celebration neighborhood coming to EPCOT. As you can see, Journey of Water is in the lower right of the image, with the foreboding Festival Center in the middle right of the art.

While taking a lap on the monorail, we noticed crews working further south than they have been, perhaps even for the Festival Center, or Festival Area, or whatever this plot ends up being. As you can see in the first image, the area is still largely used as a break area.

Here’s a look at the work taking place, which is to the south end of the former Innoventions West building slab.
