Mission: SPACE Planetary Plaza Pavement Refurbishment Complete, Mars Rover Tracks Don’t Return

The multi-month refurbishment of the Planetary Plaza Mission: SPACE courtyard appears to be complete with construction walls moving to cover the Mission: SPACE sign and surrounding walkways. Before we take a look at where construction moved to, here’s a look at the refurbished Planetary Plaza Mission: SPACE courtyard.

The blank circlular concrete theming is where the Mars rover tracks from the Spirit and Opportunity rovers were located before the refurbishment. Those tracks didn’t return with the removal of the construction walls. We can only hope that they will return at a later date.

Here’s our last look at the tracks during the refurbishment, right before they were cut out. The concrete was cut in a way that the tracks could be preserved, but we’re not sure if they were saved.

New colorful circles have been added to the courtyard.

Here’s a closer look at the colored rocks that make up the design of the new theming elements.

The sun-damaged planets were not repainted during this phase of the work.
