Imagineering Files New Permit for Signage at The Magic of Disney Animation in Hollywood Studios

|

Today, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a new permit for signage installation at The Magic of Disney Animation within Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The permit is an interesting one in that it could be for the installation of the iconic Sorcerer Mickey hat, or something far less exciting. Here’s the latest.

Imagineering Files Permit for New Signage at The Magic of Disney Animation

The Notice of Commencement permit, filed by Walt Disney Imagineering today, lists Design Communications Ltd. as the contractor for the work. The description of the work is simply “install signage” at an address that resolves to The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. More recently, the building was called the Star Wars Launch Bay until its closure back in September 2025.

As to what signage is set to be installed, the permit doesn’t specify. It’s possible that the new “signage” will be the Sorcerer Mickey hat seen in the concept art above. As you may know, Disney is reimagining the former Animation Courtyard into the Walt Disney Studios Lot. Part of the reimagining is the transformation of the former Star Wars Launch Bay into The Magic of Disney Animation.

Inside The Magic of Disney Animation, guests will find the following offerings:

  • Interact with and explore silly takes on the iconic Disney Animation headquarters, including the many different studio departments. Only this time, some of our favorite pals have taken over to create the fun adventures.
  • You’ll see portraits come to life before your eyes, just like they did in “Once Upon A Studio”.
  • Find inspiration with a short film (with a twist, of course)
  • Pencil in some time to learn how to draw your very own character sketch
  • Drawn to Wonderland” playground filled with an oversized flower garden with musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party playset, and a Tulgey Wood exploration area, all inspired by the original “Alice in Wonderland” concept art from Disney Legend Mary Blair
  • You’ll also be able to venture into “Off the Page!,” a stunning area born of collaboration between Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering. Here, you can meet some of your favorite friends from beloved Disney stories across six unique departments from the animation studio:
