Imagineering Extends Encanto Ride Permit Through Late Spring 2027

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed an amended Notice of Commencement permit tied to the address believed to be the Encanto-themed attraction currently under construction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This most recent filing is the third extension of permits that date back to late 2024 as Disney continues to work on the transformation of DinoLand USA into a Tropical Americas-themed land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Here’s the latest.

  • An amended Notice of Commencement permit has been filed for 610 DinoLand Drive
  • The address is believed to correspond to the Encanto ride or an area near it in the future Tropical Americas site
  • Whiting-Turner remains listed as the general contractor
  • The permit amends the original NOC filed in late 2024, and then another permit filed in 2025
  • The Tropical Americas land, including the Encanto ride, is expected to open in 2027

The newly filed permit was recorded just a couple of days ago, and lists Walt Disney Imagineering as the owner and Whiting-Turner as the contractor. The scope of work is listed as “Area Development,” consistent with the original permit filed for this address back in 2024. The permit is an amendment to the second version to the version of this permit that was filed in 2025 to extend the 2024 version of the permit.

What’s in the Permit

The amended permit lists the property address as 610 Dinoland Drive. That address falls within the footprint of the former Dino-Rama section of DinoLand USA, which is now well into construction as Disney transforms the area into the new Tropical Americas land.

Whiting-Turner, the longtime Walt Disney World general contractor leading the Tropical Americas project, is again listed on the permit. The permit carries a standard one-year expiration period from the date of recording, which would put the new expiration date at May 19th, 2027.

It is worth noting that this is an amended Notice of Commencement, not a new one. Amended NOCs are typically filed to update contractor information, extend a project timeline, or reflect changes in scope. In this particular case, the permit was likely amended to extend the previous permit expiration date.

Where Construction Stands

Construction on the Encanto attraction has been moving at a strong pace in recent months. As we’ve covered, the final steel beam for the ride building was signed by the Walt Disney Imagineering team in February 2026, marking a major structural milestone. Shortly after, crews began installation of the queue building, which will connect to the ride building.

Before that, interior work had already begun on the ride building itself, with crews building out the scenes and spaces guests will experience when the attraction opens.

The Encanto ride will be the first-ever ride-through attraction themed to the Academy Award-winning Walt Disney Animation Studios film. Guests will follow Antonio the day after he received his magical gift, the ability to communicate with animals, exploring the Madrigal family’s Casita and encountering beloved characters along the way.

Part of a Larger Transformation

The Encanto attraction is one of three rides planned for the Tropical Americas land, which is replacing the former DinoLand USA. The land will also feature a reimagined Indiana Jones-themed experience in the former DINOSAUR show building and a new carousel featuring popular Disney animal characters. Walt Disney World has said the completed Tropical Americas land will be open by 2027.

We’ll continue to monitor new permit filings and construction progress as the Encanto ride moves closer to completion.
