Disney World Heat Wave Continues, Heat Advisory Issued for Second Day in a Row

The National Weather Service has issued another Heat Advisory for all of east central Florida today, including Walt Disney World, as the multi-day heatwave we told you about continues to build across the region. Today’s advisory runs from 11am to 8pm, with heat index values again forecast to reach up to 110 degrees. High temperatures are expected in the 90s, and forecasters say portions of the area could see Extreme HeatRisk conditions through at least Sunday. Isolated storms are also possible again this afternoon. Here’s a closer look at the ongoing July heat wave at Walt Disney World.

Heat Advisory Returns to Walt Disney World During July Heat Wave

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • Today’s Heat Advisory covers all of east central Florida with heat index values up to 110 degrees
  • Extreme HeatRisk is now expected through at least Sunday, a day longer than previously forecast
  • Isolated afternoon storms with frequent lightning and strong winds remain possible today

July 10 Heat Advisory

Today’s Heat Advisory covers the same area as yesterday’s. It stretches across all of east central Florida, including Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort. The advisory runs from 11am to 8pm. High mercury temperatures are expected in the 90s, and the heat index could climb as high as 110 degrees during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Orlando is forecast to reach an astonishing 98 degrees today, with a 10 percent chance of rain. Isolated to widely scattered showers and lightning storms remain possible this afternoon, mainly across the interior and Treasure Coast. Any storms that develop could bring frequent lightning, wind gusts of 40 to 55 mph, and one to two inches of rain in 30 to 60 minutes. A small chance of an isolated gust up to 60 mph also exists.

We visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios yesterday when the Disney Weather section of the AccuWeather app reported a localized “RealFeel” of 116ยฐ. It was brutal. If you’re visiting Walt Disney World this Summer, and particularly if you’re visiting over the next few days, make it your mission to remain hydrated above all else. While visiting the parks, we often don’t walk for more than 30 minutes at a time before taking a hydration break either in the shade or indoors with air conditioning.

Extreme HeatRisk Now Extends Through Sunday

As we reported when the multi-day heatwave was first forecast, a widespread Major HeatRisk was expected across the region this week. Portions of the area were forecast to reach Extreme HeatRisk through at least Saturday. That Extreme HeatRisk window has now been extended a day. The National Weather Service now forecasts the elevated risk to continue through at least Sunday.

Peak heat indices will continue to range from 102 to 110 degrees through the stretch. Chances of the heat index reaching 105 degrees or higher vary by location from Saturday through Tuesday.

Heat Safety Reminders

The National Weather Service is again urging residents to practice heat safety through the advisory period and the extended heatwave. Recommendations include:

  • Hydrate before feeling thirsty, rather than waiting for signs of dehydration
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
  • Take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade, especially during outdoor work or activity
  • Shift outdoor activities away from the 10am to 4pm window when possible
  • Never leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles, even for a short time
