After an announcement that Typhoon Lagoon water park would reopen on May 1st, but no information about a Blizzard Beach closure, Walt Disney World has confirmed to BlogMickey.com that Blizzard Beach will be closed for refurbishment starting May 1st. The final day of seasonal operation for Blizzard Beach will be April 30th. This continues the single-park water park operations that were enacted during the COVID-era reopening, and it appears to be the standard operating procedure for Walt Disney World now.
Single-Park Water Park Operation Continues at Walt Disney World
While it has been common for one of the water parks to close annually for refurbishment in the past, it used to be standard operating procedure to have both Walt Disney World water parks open during the Summer. That changed during the COVID-19 phased reopening when physical distancing, capacity limitations, and staffing were a challenge.
Now, some four years after Blizzard Beach initially reopened from the COVID-19 shutdowns, the single-park water park operations continue. Typhoon Lagoon will be exceptionally busy this Summer, amplified by the new water park perk for guests staying at a Walt Disney World hotel.
Before Blizzard Beach has its final day of seasonal operation on April 30th, Disney has announced plans to celebrate the water park’s 30th Anniversary:
Around here, we celebrate anniversaries in fun ways, and we’re planning to do just that for the 30th anniversary of Blizzard Beach starting April 1. That special day, we will pay tribute to three decades of the water park’s history of creating relaxing days and cool thrills for Walt Disney World guests from around the world. Grab your swimsuit, leave your coat at home and come on out for an anniversary celebration you won’t soon forget.
Just imagine a high-energy DJ spinning some toe-tapping tunes on the deck near the Polar Pub. And fun interactions with Mickey and Minnie decked out in their winter attire. There’s even going to be snowman bowling and character-themed tubes for floating down Cross Country Creek.
The party will continue throughout April with dance parties, special anniversary food & beverage items and more frosted fun than ever. There will also be some family-friendly games with cool prizes such as snowflake tattoos, wintery-themed rubber ducks and snowy bubbles.
