|

With the announcement that Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro will be the next Disney CEO, we now have more info on the timing of the handoff with current CEO Bob Iger. Just yesterday, rumors were swirling that an announcement was imminent and that Iger wanted to exit the CEO role earlier than his contract allowed for. Now, we know exactly when Iger will step down and when D’Amaro will take over.

Bob Iger to Leave CEO Role Early

Iger’s contract as CEO expires on December 31, 2026, but he will be stepping down early. According to Disney, D’Amaro will take over the CEO role on March 18th at the upcoming Annual Meeting of Shareholders. At the end of the meeting, the Board intends to appoint D’Amaro as director.

As D’Amaro takes over the CEO role on March 18th, Iger will continue to serve as Senior Advisor and a member of the Disney Board until his retirement from the company on December 31, 2026.

“I am immensely grateful to the Board for entrusting me with leading a company that means so much to me and millions around the world,” said Josh D’Amaro, incoming CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “Disney’s strength has always come from our people and the creative excellence that defines our stories and experiences. There is no limit to what Disney can achieve, and I am excited to work with our teams across the company and brilliant creative partners to honor Disney’s remarkable legacy while continuing to innovate, grow, and deliver exceptional value for our consumers and shareholders. I also want to express my gratitude to Bob Iger for his generous mentorship, his friendship, and the profound impact of his leadership.”

“After nearly two decades leading Disney, the Iger era has been defined by enormous growth, an unyielding commitment to excellence in creativity and innovation, and exemplary stewardship of this iconic institution”, said James Gorman, Chairman of The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors.
