As you may remember, Disney filed a permit for something called “Project Nugget” with a targeted construction address of the fireworks launch bunker for Magic Kingdom. The permit was filed back in August, but according to our sources, work on the fireworks launch bunker is now underway.
Crews have actually been working on smaller parts of the refurbishment for a bit, but activity has increased in the past few days. While the exact nature of the work is still unknown at this time beyond a “refurbishment”, it’s clear that Disney is utilizing the downtime for nighttime spectaculars to complete some needed work.
Disney has not indicated when fireworks might return, but is conducting a fireworks test at EPCOT tomorrow, September 23rd. Disney has announced that there will be no fireworks in either the remainder of the Halloween season or the upcoming Christmas season, instead opting for projections on Cinderella Castle.
