Imagineering Taps Projection Dome Company for Test Track 3.0 Reimagining

A Notice of Commencement permit filed by Walt Disney Imagineering taps Pennsylvania-based Spitz, Inc. for work on the Test Track reimagining project at EPCOT. The permit lists “install set elements” as the scope of the work, keeping details relatively under wraps as Disney is able to do in Central Florida. Spitz, Inc. doesn’t do a lot of work with Disney, but they did work on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction at EPCOT.

Spitz, Inc. was founded by legendary planetarium educator Armand Spitz in 1947, and now specializes in planetariums and domes. Spitz designs projection domes for Disney, Universal Studios, Griffith Observatory, Zeiss, and others. Spitz, Inc. calls itself a “complete integrator of planetarium and spherical projection theaters”.

For Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, there are a few projection dome-style elements throughout the pre-show and attraction. It’s not immediately clear what part of the ride or queue Spitz, Inc. worked on, and it’s unknown the scope of the work that they will do for Test Track 3.0.

It’s likely that Disney will pull back the curtain a bit more on the Test Track reimagining project at the upcoming D23 Expo next weekend.
