Following news of new perimeter launch sites for Magic Kingdom, Disney has begun the construction of the new launch sites. Most notably, construction on the C-101 site has progressed significantly in recent days. While we won’t post photos of the work, the concrete platform and what appears to be electrical conduit have been installed. Work has also begun in support of the C-104 site.
Here’s a look at a permit and BlogMickey.com description of the new launch sites to be installed in the coming weeks.
- C-104: Northwest perimeter launch point near an existing canal
- C-101: A new launch pad near the existing main launch point. It is possible that this launch point will supplement the main launch area, which recently underwent upgrades.
- C-102: This area is a backstage building and not typically associated with fireworks
- C-105: This is a new launch point just north of the TRON Lightcycle Run roller coaster construction site. There used to be a semi-permanent perimeter fireworks launch point here that was lost to the TRON construction.
If we had to guess, it’s possible that the work for these new sites could be completed in time for the debut of Disney Enchantment on October 1st, but it would require quite a push to make it happen. We’re not sure how much testing a new fireworks launch site would require before being added into a new show, but with just four weeks before a media preview and subsequent debut of Disney Enchantment, the work appears to be coming down to the wire.
If, however, the new launch sites are simply being constructed for the support of special event perimeter fireworks such as those seen in Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks show, crews have plenty of time to get the work done.
