Disney Sued Over Rise of the Resistance Technology

Disney is being sued by Raven Sun Creative for an alleged patent infringement over technology used in the Rise of the Resistance attraction (via Flordia Politics). In the lawsuit, Raven Sun Creative claims that Disney used the same technology that Raven patented that synchronizes video on a screen with a vertical-moving ride vehicle.

Raven Sun Creative claims that they contacted Disney Imagineers with a detailed proposal in 2014 showcasing the technology. Disney wasn’t interested.

The moment in question is a thrilling drop that makes riders feel like they are escaping from a First Order ship.

In an episode from The Imagineering Story, Disney showcases the moment in a series of behind-the-scenes segments. Here’s a look from our earlier article.

A ride vehicle enters a “free-fall drop tower” as riders prepare to escape the First Order.

From there, the vehicle drops as a giant screen plays images that create what we previously said is “one of the most realistic, most immersive effects that you can find at a Disney theme park anywhere in the world.”

Disney said it won’t be paying Raven Sun Creative for what Raven claims are continued infringement.
