PHOTOS, VIDEO: Sunset “Boo-to-You” Parade at NEW Earlier Time During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

    Published:

After spending the weekend in Anaheim for the D23 Expo, we’re back in Orlando and we were able to attend the second Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party of the season. There are a few new things to do and see this year, and we’ll be covering everything you need to know in a series of articles this week. Perhaps the most important update (especially for families with little ones) is that the Mickey’s Boo-To-You Parade is now being shown at an earlier time than in years past. Typically, the first parade is at 9:15pm, but this year, the first parade will be at 8:15pm. The second parade will still be at 11:15pm.

We watched the Boo-To-You Parade in Frontierland, where the sun was setting off in the distance and the vibe of the parade was certainly a bit different than when it occurs in the darkness of night. Of course, as sunset becomes earlier and earlier, the 8:15pm Boo-To-You Parade might be under more darkness when you visit, but we wanted to capture the sunset version of the parade with a full video and photos!

We decided to watch the parade from Frontierland, which provided some wonderful views of the sunset in the distance. An orange sky seemed to be enjoying the early Halloween season as a northern breeze pushed some fog effects from Tom Sawyer Island into the parade route – making for a wonderfully eerie setting.

There were very few changes to the parade this year, but we can see one of the early changes already. The Cast Members “pushing” the parade marquee have a neon green cape, perhaps matching the neon vibes of Mickey and Minnie’s new Halloween costumes this year.

Fantasyland friends kick off the parade as normal, with a masquerade-style theme. Characters seen in this section of the parade include Tigger, Pooh, Pluto, Mad Hatter, Alice, Snow White, Dopey, Flynn Rider, Rapunzel, Aladdin, and Jasmine.

A 2023 addition returns this year, with the “Sanderson Sisters” atop a float with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Chip & Dale. As seen at the top of the float, Clarabelle, Minnie Mouse, and Daisy Duck are dressed up as the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus. The Hocus Pocus vibes have been wonderful the past couple of years, anchored by the phenomenal Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular stage show, now in its 9th year.

The next section of the parade contains pirates from different Disney movies. We start with the Peter Pan unit, which contains Peter Pan, Wendy, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Tinkerbelle, and some lost boys and more pirates.

Keeping the pirates theme going, we have a group of flag-twirling pirates up next before a more recognizable Pirates of the Caribbean section featuring Barbose and Captain Jack Sparrow. In the past, there has been another pirate by the name of Angelica, but she was replaced by a crewman this year.

You’ll hear ’em before you see ’em – the gravediggers kick off the Haunted Mansion unit with a sparkling (literally) shovel routine. Between clanging shovels together when walking by one another, to dragging them along the parade route, and creating sparks, this is an iconic part of a classic parade.

Leota’s tombstone floats along behind the gravediggers, and while she normally brings her own fog, there was still plenty wafting over from Tom Sawyer Island.

A waltzing ground of ghosts can be seen ahead of the Hitchhiking Ghosts parade float. Joining the swaying spirits is the bride, who first joined the parade back in 2019 and looks as ghoulish as ever!

For the first time this year, guests can encounter the Hitchhiking Ghosts outside of the parade! Keep an eye out while you walk through Frontierland to spot the eidolons.

The mood shifts considerably for the next parade unit – Halloween Hoedown! Retained from a 2023 update is the shift from Western dancers to scarecrows. The costume update allows for a more whimsical take on a hoedown while showing less skin.

Also retained from 2023 is Goofy on the Halloween Hoedown float – replacing Clarabelle Cow, who we saw earlier in the parade.

Another change to the parade is the updating of the Country Bear’s costumes to reflect the Musical Jamboree update at the attraction. Our parade viewing didn’t include Horace Horsecollar, but he will likely show up in future parades. Because Romeo McGrowl doesn’t have a meet and greet presence, he’s not in the parade either, with just Big Al and Wendell making appearances. They are joined by some new dancers.

The Clara Cluck barn float remains, as does her cluckin’.

Wreck-It Ralph was missing in 2023, but he has made a reappearance this year, and leads off the unit. Longtime fans of the parade may remember that there used to be a Buzz Lightyear section of the parade, but that was cut out last year.

Alright, time for the big finish! It’s a villains overload for the final few minutes of the parade, starting with Ursula (new in 2023) and then Cruella De Vil (Jasper and Horace were new for 2023).

The Queen of Hearts continues to have an expanded role that was first introduced in 2023.

The high-energy skeleton band returns for “It’s Good to be Bad”. The concert energy here is great and something I hope sticks around for a while!

Ooogie Boogie leads the way for the walking villains gang before the Maleficent float completes the 16-minute parade.

    Closing Thoughts
The move to an earlier showtime is pretty great, and it opens up the evening a bit more for guests who prioritize entertainment. With the old 9:15pm start time, a lot of entertainment was crunched into a relatively short window, making it really difficult to see it all, or requiring guests to stand in one spot for a couple of hours.

The earlier start time is also probably welcomed by guests with younger kids. Visually, we’re fans of the sunset parade time, although that will change throughout the Halloween season as sunset gets closer to 6:45pm by Halloween night. I almost wanted to petition for an earlier showing of the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular too, but I think that needs to be in the dark.
