With Thanksgiving just a few days away, chefs at Walt Disney World are already hard at work, preparing more than 1,000 Thanksgiving dinners for those in need in Central Florida. For more than 25 years now, Walt Disney World has provided Thanksgiving meals to individuals and families at Coalition for the Homeless and others in our community experiencing houselessness and hardship. When the meals are ready, fifteen Disney cast members will serve them directly to those in need on Thanksgiving Day.
Over the past 25+ years, Walt Disney World has delivered more than 25,000 Thanksgiving meals. This year, Walt Disney World will deliver the following menu items:
- 400 lbs of turkey
- 220 lbs of potatoes
- 140 pies
- 25 gallons of turkey gravy
- 20 gallons of cranberry sauce
In total, Disney chefs spend around 30 hours preparing and packaging the Thanksgiving meals, including more than 18 hours of preparation, 8 hours of roasting turkey, and 3 hours packaging and delivering the meals.
“We put so much of ourselves into the meals we prepare for our guests in the parks, but doing something like this for our community means the world to us – especially during a holiday that’s all about giving thanks and giving back,” said Disney World Executive Chef, John Prieto.
