Universal Patents ‘Uni’, An AI Assistant for Your Vacation

A new patent by Universal could shed light on a new project to create an Artificial Intelligence chatbot to assist you with your theme park vacation. Universal actually filed two patents for what appears to be the same technology. One patent provides for a downloadable version of the chatbot, and the other patent is for an online, non-downloadable version. Here’s what we know.

Meet ‘Uni’ the AI Assistant for Your Universal Vacation

There are two parts to both patents. The actual patent is for a motion mark. While we’ve extracted the eye-catching parts of the motion mark, Universal provided a 10-image file, showing the mark “in motion” as a bubble turns the letters “uni” into a smiling face. Here’s the motion mark, along with the description.

A motion mark in color. The ten circular stills are depicted from top to bottom in the drawing. The nature of the motion mark is a blue and purple stylized circular translucent shape formed by shifting and rotating abstract shapes. The stylized wordmark “UNI,” in white, then appears within the circular shape. The dot above the letter “I” detaches and moves across the letterforms, contacting them and causing the letterforms to change orientation and transform into a stylized face formed by two curved eyes and a curved mouth within the circular shape. The animation concludes with the face in a smiling configuration followed by a brief wink gesture.

Under the Goods and Services part of the patent application, Universal pulls the curtain back a bit on their plans for an AI chatbot service that will interact with guests and employees to create a seamless vacation experience.

According to the description, Uni will be an AI assistant, replying to questions that guests may have, as well as assisting with making reservations.

An AI chatbot assistant seems like it would not only be a logical next step for most companies, but likely a required next step. Focusing on just the theme park aspect of the technology, theme park employees are outnumbered by guests every single day. While employees always strive to provide the best assistance to guests, there are a lot of questions that can be answered by a smart AI bot quickly and accurately.

We wouldn’t be shocked at all to see both Universal and Walt Disney World roll out AI assistance tools to answer guest questions and help with vacation planning in the coming months or years.
