In a press conference today, Director of the Florida Department of Health in Orange County Dr. Raul Pino talked briefly about a recent visit to EPCOT in which he said Cast did a “fantastic job” with COVID-19 safety measures.

Pino said he visited the park with the Medical Director for Disney as a “friendly visit” and noted that it was not an inspection. During his visit Pino was encouraged by what he saw in terms of guest behavior and continuing adherence by Walt Disney World to safety protocols first outlined when the theme parks reopened.

Pino noted his observance of a variety of safety measures such as hand washing stations, plexiglass installation, and mobile food ordering.

Walt Disney World originally reopened back in mid-July and has been adding safety messages and protocols as needed since then as they continue to adjust to not only guest behavior but also guidance from health officials.

Disney has consistently pointed to the safe reopening of Walt Disney World as evidence of their ability to operate a theme park during a pandemic when presenting arguments to California Governor Gavin Newsom. Newsom has not been swayed by Disney’s arguments, placing Disneyland in the last economic reopening tier that may keep the theme park closed until summer 2021 or later. Disneyland cancelled reservations through the end of 2020 earlier today.
