What seemed like a foregone conclusion has been formalized today by Disney. Guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resort over the New Year’s holiday have been informed that there will be no New Year’s celebrations this year as Disney continues to operate modified operations as a result of COVID-19. Here’s a look at the email sent to guests:
Update for New Year’s Eve
Everyone here at Walt Disney World® Resort is looking forward to welcoming you at The Most Magical Place on Earth. As we continue to celebrate the season and enjoy the splendor of the holidays, we’d like to share information about this year’s New Year’s Eve activities.
All four Walt Disney World Theme Parks as well as Disney Springs are decorated for the season and feature extended operating hours. On New Year’s Eve, however, these locations will close prior to midnight as we continue to follow health and safety measures put in place during our phased reopening to help foster physical distancing.
New Year’s Eve Hours of Operation
* Magic Kingdom, 8:00 am – 11:00 pm
* Epcot, 10:00 am – 10:00 pm
* Disney’s Hollywood Studios, 9:00 am – 9:00 pm
* Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, 7:00 am – 8:00 pm
* Disney Springs, 10:00 am – 11:00 pm
Your Disney Resort hotel will offer fun and festive activities. Full details will be provided upon arrival. Additionally, pre-recorded fireworks and other holiday offerings will be available to stream on in-room televisions to help you ring in the new year. You can even purchase a New Year’s Eve party basket designed for the occasion.

First and foremost, it is not “the damn flu.” Perhaps that’s where your misinformation and ignorance starts. Covid is a deadly respiratory virus that did not exist prior to 2019, thus we know/knew very little about it. It’s called ‘science,’ and that’s what will get us through this ordeal…just like every other deadly virus that has come before it. Second, it is not “the sniffles,” as 300,000 American families can firmly attest to (myself included). Do people die from the flu and smoking? Yes, they certainly do. But have those means to an end been studied for generations? You bet. Covid is a deadly disease that is still in its infancy. So much is yet to be discovered about it. To claim it is a hoax is utter stupidity. Speaking from experience, watching a beloved family member die alone, via FaceTime, is all the heartache I need to tell you you’re blind and quite, well, stupid. You mean to tell me that not only did American politicians rally together to create this “lie,” but then they got global leaders to also go along with it to spread disinformation about a fictitious disease? Remarkable. And for what? So you can harbor such intense anger over not being able to watch a fireworks show. Good God, get a grip. Life is beautiful. Life is short. And life is far more precious than being crowded into a theme park, risking the health of others (note I didn’t say yours, since it seems it’d be a wasted exercise on someone of such narrow thinking).
I implore you to mask up, be selfless (Google that one), drop the entitled act (can you imagine if Americans acted like you during the Spanish flu? Holy hell), and suck it up. We are months away from restoring some normalcy, so calm down, turn off whatever propaganda media you’re tirelessly consuming, and if you really really need to see a firework show, might I suggest you take a Roman candle, light it with your glass lamp, and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine.
