Good afternoon from Disney’s Contemporary Resort and a wonderful overlook of the TRON Lightcycle Run construction at neighboring Magic Kingdom. We’re just days away from the completion of the canopy skeleton, a major construction milestone for the project.
Earlier this month, we reported on another construction milestone for the project – the topping off of the canopy. Since then, crews have worked on placing the final pieces of the canopy skeleton and appear to be only a few pieces from completion. The work appeared to be completed on Friday, but construction was paused for the day, perhaps to allow for a photo op of the final piece being placed on Monday. Here’s a look at the progress, including the final gap yet to be filled.
After the canopy work is completed, crews can work on the rest of the project which includes hardscape work and pathway construction. It’s currently unknown what the interior of the building looks like, but with construction efforts seemingly focused on the exterior, it’s likely that the interior of the building has very little to no theming.
It is rumored that Disney will not be able to open TRON Lightcyle Run before the 50th Anniversary celebrations kick off on October 1st as previously promised. Both Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle Run are expected not to open this summer in time for the 50th Anniversary, instead pushed back to rumored 2022 openings.
