When Are Cast Members Asking Guests to Wear Masks in Attraction Queues?

Today is the first day that guests are allowed to remove their face masks when outdoors at Walt Disney World. While visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we noticed that there was a bit of a discrepancy on where guests need to wear a mask when in an extended, overflow attraction queue.

First, here’s a look at Walt Disney World’s posted policy:

Face coverings are optional in outdoor common areas at Walt Disney World Resort, but are still required upon entering and throughout all attractions, theaters and transportation.

With physical distancing still in place at many attractions, queues are extending well past the traditional start of a queue. So, when exactly are guests being asked to put on their face mask? At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we observed Cast Members asking guests to put on their face masks when passing through an attraction entrance.

For example, guests in the long line for Slinky Dog Dash that wraps through the land are not asked to put on their face masks until they pass under the entrance marquee. This means that many guests are not wearing a mask in the extended line.

Once they are asked to put their masks on, guests are required to keep their masks on throughout the attraction and until they exit.

We can see similar situations throughout the park. Physical distancing remains at 6ft, but is rarely observed by guests.
