Disneyland Rehires Less Than Half of Pre-Pandemic Workforce

Disneyland is looking to hire 1,000 new Cast Members this summer, but currently employs less than half of their pre-pandemic workforce, according to company officials (via ocregister).

Before the COVID-19 pandemic closed the Disneyland theme parks for more than 400 days, Disneyland employed about 32,000 Cast Members. As of right now, about 15,000 of those Cast Members have been rehired.

In total, roughly 37,000 Cast Members at Disneyland and Walt Disney World were furloughed at the height of the pandemic. At the end of 2020, Disneyland had laid off almost 12,000 employees.

Looking toward the future, Disneyland is hoping to hire 1,000 Cast Members this summer, but it’s a long, long road ahead to a workforce of 30,000+ at the Disneyland Resort. It’s also possible that Disneyland will never return to as massive of a workforce as executives focus on a leaner, more cost efficient workforce company-wide.

At Walt Disney World in Florida, Disney brought back the Disney College Program months earlier than CEO Bob Chapek said they would. Disney is also hosting massive “Traditions” onboarding classes as they try to get more Cast Members into their theme parks to allow for a more normalized set of offerings.
