In a new press release, The Walt Disney Company has recapped Disney CEO Bob Iger’s comments at the recent Morgan Stanley Conference. As you might remember, Iger said that Disney was going to build a second Pandora – The World of Avatar themed land at the Disneyland Resort. Here’s what Iger said:
But most importantly, we have so much IP to mine, that there’s opportunity there to create experiences that we know people will love to have in our parks. So, many examples. We have one Avatar‐based land, Pandora, in Florida. We’re going to put a second one in California. That doesn’t mean we can’t put one in – somewhere in Asia and somewhere in Europe, as a for instance.
In the press release recapping the event, Disney said that there are “plans to develop an Avatar experience at Disneyland in California”, refusing to quote Iger when he said that they were going to build a second land. Here’s the relevant quote from Disney:
Iger referenced the excitement about plans to develop an Avatar experience at Disneyland in California and acknowledged the prospect of other properties where the franchise might also be successful, noting the popularity of Pandora – The World of Avatar at Walt Disney World in Florida. Iger said that if you “build it right, build it with excellence,” guests will come.
The will they, won’t they discussion continues as fans try to decipher what, exactly, is coming. Of course, it really doesn’t matter that much right now given Disney’s reluctance to commit to any project, big or small, that doesn’t float, beyond the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure this year at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland.
