Ahead of the arrival of (forecasted) Hurricane Milton landfall on the west coast of Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis has issued a State of Emergency for 35 counties. Orange County and Osceola County, the two counties that Walt Disney World property sits on, are included in the State of Emergency. While a State of Emergency is less of a forecast and more of an administrative lever, guests visiting Walt Disney World over the next week should keep a very close eye on the storm.
The National Hurricane Center has issued its 5pm update, which upgraded and named the storm into Tropical Storm Milton. The latest forecast, which we’ve included below, calls for the storm to become a hurricane by Monday, and a major category 3 hurricane by the time it makes landfall in the middle of next week.
While the eye of the storm isn’t expected to make landfall until Wednesday, the effects of the storm will begin to be felt starting tomorrow. The local branch of the National Weather Service has offered updates about planned rain impacts starting at 11am on Sunday and running through Thursday morning.
As for Walt Disney World, Disney has not activated any alerts yet, but we can be sure that their weather team is keeping a very close eye on this storm. We expect that alerts will be issued on Monday at the latest. If you’re visiting next week, we highly suggest that you monitor the storm’s development this weekend, and prepare for heavy rain and wind, leading to potentially dangerous conditions next week.
