A Heat Advisory is in effect for all of East Central Florida today, from 10:00am to 8:00pm. The National Weather Service says heat index values could reach 108 to 112 degrees this afternoon. High mercury temperatures will be in the mid 90s across the region, including the Walt Disney World area. This is the second day in a row that Central Florida has been under a heat advisory, and there doesn’t appear to be any relief in sight.

The National Weather Service office in Melbourne has placed the entire East Central Florida region under a Heat Advisory today. Forecasters expect heat index values to reach 108 to 112 degrees this afternoon. That heat index comes from a combination of mid 90s air temperatures and high humidity.

The advisory area covers the region broadly, including Orlando and the areas surrounding Walt Disney World. Forecast highs will be in the mid to upper 90s.

Safety Precautions

The National Weather Service is urging residents and visitors to take precautions during today’s advisory. Recommended steps include drinking plenty of fluids and staying in air-conditioned spaces when possible.

Anyone spending extended time outdoors should reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours when possible. Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing is also recommended. Take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments to reduce risk.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Move anyone overcome by heat to a cool, shaded location immediately, and call 911 right away.

Extended Outlook

The extended HeatRisk outlook shows little relief through the rest of the week. Greater Orlando is forecast to sit in the extreme HeatRisk category through Friday. The Walt Disney World area currently sits in the “major” HeatRisk category. As someone who spends a lot of time in the parks, Summers are no joke. Please drink plenty of water today and spend as much time indoors as possible.
