UPDATE: Disney has made an official statement regarding the closure of the Red Car Trolley, “Beginning April 1, 2019, Red Car Trolley will be closed for refurbishment in preparation to bring a universe of Super Heroes to Disney California Adventure Park. Red Car Trolley will return to transport Guests through Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Land in 2020”.

The Red Car Trolley is closed today, entering a refurbishment that should last through at least Spring 2020 according to internal calendars. The refurbishment likely has little to do with the actual Red Car Trolley and more with the path it takes next to the Marvel Land construction. It also looks like the backstage support areas for the Red Car Trolley are close to, if not directly on, the expansion plot for the new Marvel Land coming to the park.
The Red Car Trolley News Boys entertainment act is still listed on the entertainment schedule, so it looks like the show will go on (minus the trolley)!
